Nestled below the majestic Ncaga Mountain, overlooking the activities of a working farm, lies the Whistling Duck Farm cottage. The cottage and its surroundings cater for many needs - whether you are looking for peace and tranquility or outdoor adventure - there is much on offer.

This luxury self catering cottage offers you the opportunity to break away from your daily routine and relax in a country environment - this is definitely a place to restore your senses and revive your soul.

The cottage is situated in the heart of Lüneburg, which was established as a German missionary post in 1854 - today Lüneburg has an active farming community, is home to the oldest German school in Northern Natal, boasts an excellent butchery, a unique farm cash store and two beautiful churches which are well worth a visit.

ACCOMMODATION:

The cottage has 3 spacious bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The open plan kitchen is well equipped with all modern necessities including a complete range of crockery and cutlery, pots and pans. The lounge and dining room open onto a full length covered verandah where a magnificent view of the dam and its birdlife can be enjoyed.

Towels and linen are supplied and changed every 3 days. The cottage is serviced daily.

Your stay at the cottage will definitely restore your senses as nature and all it’s elements surround you. At night you will be lulled to sleep by a chorus of bullfrogs found in the nearby dam.

ATTRACTIONS

Historical events are abundant in the area including famous Zulu wars, as well as Anglo Boer history – for those who are not afraid of dirt roads and prepared to explore a little 2 registered guides are available to share their knowledge of the events in the area.

ACTIVITIES

For the outdoor enthusiast there are a host of activities, including hiking trails, bass fishing in 4 of the dams found on the farm, horse trails, mountain biking, canoeing, nearby quad routes, birding and angling for yellow fish in the nearby Pongola river.

A bird hide on the edges of the dam allows for hours of pleasure, common sightings include the pied kingfisher as well as the giant kingfisher - in the winter months there are often over 200 white faced whistling ducks swimming in the water.
