Umzimkulu River Lodge \ Accommodation in Underberg

Umzimkulu River Lodge offers serviced Bed & Breakfast or Self Catering accommodation on one of the most beautiful bends of the Umzimkulu River in the Southern Drakensberg. Umzimkulu River Lodge is just two hours from Durban and six hours from Johannesburg in the foothills of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site.

Accommodation

PIED COTTAGE – UNIT A
Semi detached 2/3 sleeper unit with double en suite room upstairs, kitchenette/lounge (with log fire)/dining area downstairs. There is a bedsitter in the lounge downstairs suitable for a child under 12. The kitchen is fully equipped with gas hob/oven, microwave and fridge/freezer and open-plan dining area also with double doors out onto the verandah. The private garden has gorgeous views and braai facilities.

PIED COTTAGE – UNIT B
Semi detached 2/3 sleeper unit with double en suite room upstairs, kitchenette/lounge (with log fire)/dining area downstairs. There is a bedsitter in the lounge downstairs with an additional bed which pulls out underneath and an additional bathroom downstairs. The kitchen is fully equipped with gas hob/oven, microwave and fridge/freezer and open-plan dining area also with double doors out onto the verandah. The private garden has gorgeous views and braai facilities.

Honeymooners

Honeymooners revel in the privacy of a luxurious suite and private deck overlooking the river. Order a “Starry Eyed Package” complete with sparkling wine on ice, fresh flowers, bath salts, foam bath, luxury soaps and candles to celebrate the special occasion.

Family-friendly

Families love it for the unhurried old world country atmosphere with days spent picnicking under the huge oaks on the river island, bolder hopping in thrombosis gorge and exploring all this adventure playground has to offer. The animal farm, canoes, playground and trampoline are a just a few of the facilities that keep children enjoying the fresh air and outdoors all day long.

Breakfast & Dining

We offer breakfast and dinner on request. Alternatively there are several restaurants and coffee shops in Underberg (22km away).

Attractions and Activities

Activities include: Trout fishing, small Bass dam, adventure playground, animal farm, walks, and birding, with Quad bike trails, horse riding and river rafting nearby.

Fishing
Fishermen enjoy the unrivalled opportunities to catch rainbow trout along our 2.5km stretch of the Umzimkulu. Should the river conditions be unfavorable, there is a trophy dam on our neighbouring farm available to our guests - booking essential. The rivers are open from from September to end May every year. Dams are however open for year round fishing enjoyment.

Canoeing & Tubing
Canoes, paddles and tubes are available to our guests for hire. Tubing is a favorite summer activity. Guests are dropped off about 5km upriver and tube back to the lodge.

The Enchanted Neighbourhood
Animal Farm (tortoises, pigs, rabbits and guinea pigs, geese, ducks and chickens). Jungle gym and swings, sandpit, trampoline, table tennis and soccer game.

Other activities
Horse rides on our neighbouring farm about 15km away.
