With only three en-suite bedrooms, Thornleys Bed and Breakfast offers private and exclusive accommodation. Thornleys has a wonderful collection of antiques which make for a very definite Zululand colonial feel.

Relax near the pool, have tea and scones on one of the verandahs or read a good book from the house library. Thornleys has free wireless internet and DStv. A homely environment is what we strive for and guests are encouraged to make full use of the house facilities.

A central feature of Thornleys is the house pub, complete with a fireplace, braai and a big screen TV; it makes for a very pleasant atmosphere to view cricket or rugby on a lazy Saturday afternoon. The garden is lush, beautifully manicured and stretches into the magnificent Dlinza forest which makes for great birding, right on your doorstep.

Thornleys is an ideal week-end getaway destination for the city dweller who wants some genuine country serenity.

Breakfast and Dining

The private dining room offers both continental and full English breakfasts. Lunch and dinner can also be arranged on request.

Golfing and Birding

Golf and birding are probably Eshowe's biggest draw cards. Eshowe Hills Golf Course is a magnificent 18 hole course which at 104 years old is the oldest in Zululand! The ourse is a 10 minute drive from Thornleys B & B and golf clubs are available for hire.

Eshowe is a birders paradise! Centrally placed on the world renowned Zululand Birding Route, which boasts over 600 species, Eshowe has a wealth of birding hot spots. Located in the town and a 10 minute drive from Thornley's is the Dlinza Forest Aerial Boardwalk. Local bird guides can be arranged on request.

Eshowe is the perfect base-camp from which to travel and experience the real Zululand. Keep one's travel valuables and belongings in a safe environment and be free to explore the sights and sounds of the area. Eshowe is a little over and hour’s drive from Durban's new international airport at La Mercy. At 500 meters above sea-level and 25 km's from the coast, Eshowe manages to escape the severe coastal heat and humidity and has arguably the best weather in Zululand.

The oldest town in Zululand, Eshowe has an enviable history. Fort Nongqayi which dates from 1883 has been converted to a museum village and gives one a fascinating insight into the rich history of the area.
