Kloof Gorge Backpackers \ Accommodation in Kloof

Kloof Gorge Backpackers is a newly established venue, ideal for the budget-conscious traveller who enjoys being close to nature. Kloof Gorge Backpackers's is on a large property, and borders KrantzKloof Nature Reserve, with 20km of nature trails and seven waterfalls - the closest of which is only 450 metres from us! All this while situated on a suburban road, only 5km from Kloof and 30km from Durban.

KGB’s typical guests are people who are looking for a place to chill out, relax, and take in some space, quiet, and even solitude. Although the road past the house can get busy in the mornings and afternoons, it quietens down in the evenings and allows you to hear the sound of the stream running past, crickets, frogs and other night life. There is also ample bird life visible and audible from our garden, and the nature reserve that we border.

Self Catering Accommodation

• Guest dormitory-style bedroom with, at present, two single beds
• Guest lounge with fireplace, PC with free internet, free WiFi, TV
• Modern, newly-appointed kitchen, with fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave, small stove, sink
• Bathroom with bath, basin and separate shower
• Separate toilet
• Large garden to relax in, swimming pool, trampoline. The total size of the property is about 5 hectares (12 acres), so there is no shortage of space
• The entire property is too big to fence, hence an area closer to the house is enclosed by an electric fence
• Parking is next to the house, inside the electric fence
• While proper meals are not offered at this stage, basic foodstuffs are supplied (tea, coffee, milk, sugar, bread, butter, instant noodle snacks)
• Bedding and a towel are supplied for each guest

Handicapped Facilities

The interior of the house is wheelchair-friendly, but please be aware that there is no paved path from the parking area to the house – it is grass.

Pets

We have pets of our own, and for that reason we are not keen to accommodate other pets. We have four cats and two dogs (they are gentle).

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the building.

activities and attractions

Walks and nature trails close by:
• The Mpiti Falls is a gentle 450 metre walk from KGB's, through indigenous forest. Except during dry spells, you hear it long before you see it. Just before you reach it, it becomes visible above the trees. It is 43m high
• There are seven waterfalls within KrantzKloof Nature Reserve, with the main Kloof Falls starting only about 200m from KGB's. We provide you with details on how to get to all the accessible ones

Things to do further afield :
• Five km's away is Kloof village, with three supermarkets, about eight restaurants and takeaways (Thai, pizza, burger, KFC)
• Eight km's away is Hillcrest, with easily 20 restaurants and many takeaways (as above, plus McDonalds)
• Fifteen km's and further is the Thousand Hills Experience, a scenic route taking in craft stalls, restaurants, etc
• Twenty km's away is the Pavilion Shopping Mall, with the usual mall shops, plus 12 movie theatres
• Thirty km's away is the bustling hub of Durban and the sea
