Hambleden \ Accommodation in Dargle

We look forward to welcoming you to Hambleden, a 27 hectare farm with stunning views situated in the beautiful Dargle Valley in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands. We are situated on the Midlands Meander within easy reach of Midmar Dam and approximately 14km from Howick. We are also midway between Hilton College and Michaelhouse, making us the ideal destination for Hilton-Michaelhouse fixtures!

We offer a choice of self-catering or B&B accommodation, stylishly decorated at a very affordable price. We have two options available, either our two bed roomed Westfield Cottage or our double Turville Room which adjoins the main house, adjacent to the cottage.

Accommodation

Self Catering
Westfield Cottage was built and recently renovated by local artisans. The cottage has two airy bedrooms, a spacious lounge and its own verandah overlooking the garden. On misty and chilly days, one can curl up in front of the open fire. Full DSTV is available for a nominal additional charge.

Westfield Cottage has a fridge and cooking facilities including hob, convection microwave and braai facilities on the verandah. We can provide eggs from our hens and local produce, or stock your fridge on arrival with local seasonal goodies on request – please request the list of what is available and arrange this with us at least 36 hours prior to arrival.

Turville, our newly renovated double room with ensuite bath and shower, offers comfortable B&B accommodation. DSTV is available in the unlikely event guests wish to keep in contact with the outside world! Relax on our wide verandah and soak up the tranquil views and birdsong whilst you enjoy your breakfast. Alternatively, if you would like to have your breakfast on the Meander, special room-only rates can be arranged.

Activities at Hambleden

• Bass fishing or bird watching at our dam
• Visit our Nguni cows and calves, and our hens
• Walk on our 27 hectare estate with its stunning views of the area, accompanied by our friendly dogs
• Walking trails into the Dargle Valley, where wildlife including porcupines and buck abounds (and even wild cats and cerval may be glimpsed)
• Short 4x4 route - ideal test for soft off-roaders!
• Trampoline and swings for young children (to be used under parental supervision only)
• Fresh produce and preserves, produced on our farm, are available for purchase by our guests

Surrounding Areas

Come and relax and soak up the peaceful atmosphere of the Natal Midlands. Experience four seasons in a day and pinch yourself to remember you are not in England, whilst being in easy reach of Durban and only 4.5 hours drive from Johannesburg! Midmar Dam is easily accessible for water sports lovers and of course, the Midmar Mile each February. Hilton College is only 30 minutes drive away and we are a 20 minute drive from Michaelhouse.

• If you are lucky enough to be here on the first Sunday of the month, don’t miss the Dargle Local Market, held on Sunday morning from 9am to 11.30ish. Hosted by Debbie at the Dargle General Dealer and held alongside Il Postino Restaurant on the Dargle Main Road. Get there early to meet the locals and stock up on delicious fresh produce, homemade artisan loaves, handmade soap and dairy products and so much more
