Enniskerry Self-Catering \ Accommodation in Balgowan

Enniskerry Self-Catering Balgowan

Enniskerry self-catering guest suites opened their doors in December 2010 to visitors looking for accommodation on a self-catering basis. The rates are particularly competitive in the current tourism market. It is situated in a beautiful, peaceful, farming valley in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands 200m off the R103 (the old Durban main road). Enniskerry is named after a beautiful village in Ireland where the famous Powerscourt House Estate is situated which is in County Wicklow - the county known as the garden of Ireland.

Self Catering Accommodation

We have four spacious and comfortable self-catering guest units. All have loft bedrooms (two units have single beds and two have queen beds) with wardrobes. Units 1, 2, and 3 have a double sleeper couch in the lounge and unit 4 has two single beds downstairs with a day bed. All rooms have a downstairs bathroom with shower, basin and WC and a fully equipped kitchen.

Fans keep the rooms cool in summer and heaters and electric blankets ensure you’re warm in winter. Each has its own covered verandah with table and chairs and a small portable braai – ideal for relaxing and watching the sun set. In the summer, there is a small culinary herb garden behind the units and guests are welcome to pick their own artichokes, lettuces, and herbs.

Activities and Attractions

The Natal Midlands is one of the most sought after tourist destinations in South Africa. It has also become the ideal location for people seeking a country lifestyle away from the big city stress. Enniskerry is in the heart of the Midlands Meander and within close proximity to many attractions. These include Peter’s Gate Herb Farm with the Lemon and Bay Coffee Shop (ideal for tea or a light lunch), Granny Mouse’s Country House with the Eaves Restaurant for fine dining or the Bistro for something lighter.

The Ugly Duckling and Miguel’s Leather Crafts are also very close by as is Culamoya Chimes. Happy Hills opened in October 2010 and there are shops, an art gallery and a restaurant. Piggly Wiggly offers a great cappuccino, lunches and teas and on their premises is Meander Fine Wines, Tour les Jours pyjama shop, the Linen Loft, Zulu Lulu ethnic pottery and the Eclectic Magpie – something for everyone. Abingdon Wine Estate, also open for lunches, will have you thinking you’re in the Cape, Lions River Trading Post has antiques and the well-renowned Karkloof Canopy Tours will satisfy the adrenalin junkies.

The KZN Midlands has prolific bird life and is a birdwatcher’s heaven. The area is safe for walking, hiking and cycling and buck are spotted regularly. Fly fishing is also available nearby.

Location

Enniskerry is midway between Howick and Nottingham Road. At Ford Nottingham there is a museum and the Highland Games are celebrated each year in April / May on a farm in Fort Nottingham. Midmar dam is also in close proximity for the annual swim. The Midlands is a popular wedding destination and Enniskerry is well situated if attending a wedding in the area.

A relaxing few days at Enniskerry will rejuvenate your mind, body and soul. Roger and Rosemarie look forward to meeting you.
